Plumbing Standard has stricter limitations on Leaching Lead Amount in North America

Oct. 22, 2020
Joint committee governing has updated the contents in NSF/ANSI/CAN 61, which lowers maximum allowable limits of leached lead from plumbing endpoint devices. Theses standards are required in the drinking water product market of the United State and Canada.

In order to reduce lead from the drinking water, NSF International has explored plenty of testing methods. At present, the maximum amount of lead leading has been reduced from 5 micrograms (μg) to 1 μg for plumbing products. For some water endpoint devices, the maximum limits are even lower.Fro example, the amount of lead leading of connector hoses and small shut-off valves should not exceed 0.5 μg.

The main harm of lead to human health is the damage to its nervous system, especially to children under 6 years of age, whose blood, nerve and brain tissues are most vulnerable to poisoning. This update will provide end users a better security in the drinking water sanitary.
